The Evolution of Allen Signs: A Journey from Paintbrush to Cutting-Edge Technology
In 1965, the art of signwriting was dominated by the paintbrush. This is where our story begins. Barry Allen, the father of our current Director David Allen, spent countless hours perfecting his craft. By day, he painted lorries and vehicles, and by night, he honed his signwriting skills. Barry’s expertise led him to work in several renowned local commercial paint shops, eventually becoming the paint shop manager at the esteemed car dealership RM Wright.
Barry’s entrepreneurial spirit drove him to establish his own signwriting business, giving birth to Allen Signs as we know it today. Among his first clients were DMT Transport, which later became Denby, and Bradshaw of Sturton by Stow—both of whom remain valued customers to this day.
A Glimpse into the Past
In 1965, our process involved receiving vehicles in a standard white color, painting them to the customer’s specifications, and then meticulously signwriting their details. Fast forward to today, advancements in materials and technology have revolutionized our capabilities, allowing us to create stunning and unique effects for our clients.
Embracing Change and Growth
While we have diversified our services significantly since 2018, signwriting and vehicle livery continue to be core aspects of our business. In 2017 alone, we stripped, wrapped, or created vinyls for over 200 vehicles. Our growth is evident not only in the range of services we offer but also in the size of vehicles we can accommodate and the expansion of our team and workspace.
Tackling Unique Projects
Over the past decade, we have undertaken a variety of intriguing projects, from single road bike vinyls and motor sport vehicle decals to washing machines and large transport vehicles like removal vans and road planers. No vehicle is too large for us; we thrive on challenges and our creative team relishes complex briefs.
Building Long-Term Relationships
We are proud to have a loyal client base that relies on us for every new addition to their fleet. Notable clients include Lindum Fire and Newark Motor Auctions, who trust us to maintain their vehicles in top condition, ensuring they represent their brand effectively on the road.
The Power of Vehicle Branding
Why do so many businesses invest in vehicle branding? The answer lies in the myriad benefits it offers. Vehicle wraps are a cost-effective and creative way to express brand personality, capture attention, and reinforce key messages. In a blog post last year, we highlighted the advantages of vehicle branding, including its protective benefits for your fleet.
Preserving Vehicle Value
For many businesses, purchasing fleet vehicles in white and then customizing them with wraps or sprays is a cost-effective strategy. This approach not only provides immediate branding benefits but also preserves the vehicle’s value. At the end of a lease, the wrap can be removed, restoring the vehicle to its original state quickly and efficiently.
Quality Matters
Choosing high-quality materials and skilled installation is crucial. Opting for cheaper products may save money initially, but it often results in higher removal costs and potential vehicle damage. At Allen Signs, we emphasize the importance of selecting a supplier with a proven track record of excellence.
Our Commitment to Excellence
